As renewable energy virgins, we began talking about using solar as one of our sources of energy. We realized we knew absolutely nothing about our carbon footprint or how much energy we actually used. Anyone who knows me very well can tell you that I am a total “gadget junkie”. They will also tell you I am cheap. I hate paying a lot for things and electricity is one of the biggest things I get fired up about, the other is the price of groceries and that is the reason for the garden.

When you are using solar as your source of energy it really pays to be diligent. If you are charging banks of batteries or just trying to give yourself a break on the power bill, you need to know where the energy hogs are in your home and take steps to slow them down a little on the consumption.
