Calculating and Saving Energy

As renewable energy virgins, we began talking about using solar as one of our sources of energy. We realized we knew absolutely nothing about our carbon footprint or how much energy we actually used. We began searching the web, reading all we could about what it would take to switch over to solar and other renewable energy sources.

The first thing we needed to find out was how much energy we wanted to replace and how much that actually amounts to every year.

Anyone who knows me very well can tell you that I am a total “gadget junkie”. They will also tell you I am cheap. I hate paying a lot for things and electricity is one of the biggest things I get fired up about, the other is the price of groceries and that is the reason for the garden.

Any of these items below would satisfy both cravings in me. They will also pay for themselves in no time by finding the source of the rising power bill and helping to lower it.

When you are using solar as your source of energy it really pays to be diligent. If you are charging banks of batteries or just trying to give yourself a break on the power bill, you need to know where the energy hogs are in your home and take steps to slow them down a little on the consumption.
