Solar Chargers for Video Games and Cell Phones
I never advocate wasting money on junk. There are some junk solar items out there that have given solar lights and other solar products a bad name. There are companies out there that do things they shouldn’t and give a black eye to the entire industry. Currently, Solyndra comes to mind.
This is the same throughout any industry.
I’ve been giving a lot of thought to presents for children that won’t require the parents to keep a stock of batteries. I am a proponent of educational but fun toys for kids.
I am not saying I don’t enjoy video games because I very much do! We have many video games and several computers. It is not our thought that people should give up everything they enjoy just to decrease their carbon footprint.
If you are looking for those sort of recommendations there are many places to find them on the web.
I do believe things that are not being used should be unplugged if they are not required to keep time or have some sort of scheduled job. There are easy ways to turn all those items off at once without having to go around, unplug each one and wear out the connectors. You can find a few of them here.
For us, playing the video games is a lot of fun but we are not interested in keeping the games plugged in all the time nor do we plan to have to keep replacing batteries. That becomes very expensive. So what we have done is purchased solar chargers and we use them just like we would a wall plug. Many hand-held video games now come with rechargeable batteries and don’t require you to buy new batteries every few days.
Below you will find some chargers that can be used for video games, cell phones, and even laptops. My friend also has several iPods that he keeps charged. You might also find that many kids make it a game to charge with solar.
